Getting the Jump on Doodle Jump Kinect

Doodle Jump has already been doing gangbusters on mobile platforms like iOS and Android, hopping up the sales charts like its tiny green star. Now, the game is looking to make another leap, this time to consoles with Doodle Jump Kinect, coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade later this spring.

As you can surmise from the name, Doodle Jump Kinect utilizes the hands-free peripheral to control your character (known as The Doodler) as he jumps his way through the clouds and assorted platforms while avoiding enemies and keeping from falling to oblivion below. We recently spent some hands-on ("body"-on?) time with the game, and can say that it's actually a pretty fun and interesting take on the original game.

Doodle Jump's environments boast a nice cartoony look.

Instead of leaning your body to the left or right to change direction, you sidestep from left to right. Since you'll be sidestepping and moving around quite a bit, you're going to need a lot of space in your living room to play. You'll also have access to some special power ups at certain points that will allow you to fly through huge sections of the game by flapping your arms, freeze time to stop enemies and moving platforms in their tracks, and bombs that you can set off to take out cannons with a clap of your hands.

By holding out your arm, The Doodler will shoot out bullets, taking out monsters and baddies. You have to point in the right direction to take out your foes, but luckily the game was good at picking up a wide range of motions via Kinect.

At the end of each stage, you'll be ranked on how fast you completed the stage as well as how many times you died along the way. You will definitely need a lot of room to play Doodle Jump Kinect, but if your living room can take it, you might find an enjoyable (and tiring) experience.
