But her latest move might indeed surprise you: Kondo, the queen of suggesting you toss anything that doesn't "spark joy," wants to sell you more stuff.
According to Kondo's introduction to the store, "my tidying method isn't about getting rid of things—it's about heightening your sensitivity to what brings you joy," and these are items she hopes spark joy for those who buy them.
She says the store was inspired by readers who asked her what type of items spark joy for her.
"Of course, I don't use every product, but all the products are founded on KonMari's worldview, if you will," she tells the Journal, adding that she did in fact perform her well-known "joy check" on the items, touching each one.
While about half the items for sale come from Kondo's native Japan, CNN notes the store only ships to the US. "I'm not trying to encourage over-purchasing anything," Kondo tells the Journal.
Rather, she hopes that after completing her tidying method, readers will be able to make space to "choose what sparks joy for you and really cherish what you buy and what you surround yourself with."
