WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Balance carries SCC women

Jan. 14-- Jan. 14--All five starters scored in double figures and Southeastern Community College coasted past Marshalltown, 71-53, in a college women's basketball game at Cardinal Stritch gymnasium in Keokuk Monday night;

Freshman Emma Knipe led the Blackhawks with a double double -- 15 points and 12 rebounds. Shaniya Caldwell and Destiny Trujillo scored 12 points each and Sasha Sacccheus and D'Shanna Schuster each scored 10. Caldwell had six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Saccheus grabbed five rebounds. Knipe also had three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

SCC rolled out to a 21-9 lead in the first quarter and added a 19-8 run in the third period.

Eva Zaragoza led Marshalltown with 15 points and seven rebounds. Eva Carballo added 12 points.

The Blackhawks improved to 9-7. SCC plays Ellsworth (0-15) at Iowa Falls Wednesday and Little Priest Tribal College (2-11) in Winnebago, Nebraska, on Saturday.
